TITLE:                                  Mental Health Tech/Aide - CHOICES

 

CLASSIFICATION:             Mental Health Support Worker I

 

SALARY RANGE:              $19,760.00 - $30,067.00

 

SUPERVISOR:                     Coordinator CHOICES

 

DEFINITION:

 

This is responsible work assisting the CHOICES staff in the provision of therapeutic activities for seriously mentally ill individuals and in the cleaning and maintenance of the CHOICES facilities.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

 

Transport clients to and from CHOICES.

 

Escort and/or transport clients to various activities as needed.

 

Assist in the supervision of program activities.

 

Perform housekeeping functions, teach classes, and provide skills training for CHOICES clients in housekeeping activities.

 

Assist in maintaining assigned area in a safe, clean and orderly condition and in the maintenance of supplies and equipment.

 

Teach classes and provide skills training for CHOICES clients.

 

Observe the behavior, attitudes and physical condition of clients and report significant changes to program coordinator.

 

Provide administrative clerical services such as reception, typing, copying, supply ordering and other administrative tasks. Teach classes and provide skills training for CHOICES clients in administrative tasks.

 

Assist in monitoring program area and directing clients to program functions or areas.

 

Complete reports and paperwork as assigned.

 

Maintain client records through filing, copying, typing and documentation, while linking with Client Information Processing to coordinate record utilization across programs.

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Ability to develop skills necessary to provide basic supervision and care of the seriously mentally ill.

 

Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions and to prepare and maintain routine reports.

 

Some knowledge of housekeeping procedures to include meal planning and preparation, housekeeping and facility maintenance.

 

Some knowledge of administrative clerical procedures to include typing, reception, copying, supply ordering and record keeping.

 

Ability to effectively relate to and communicate with the seriously mentally ill.

 

Ability to adjust to philosophy of the CHOICES Program and maintain a positive attitude in carrying out work assignments.

 

Ability to work well with others within and outside CHOICES, to include other programs and community/family members.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Must hold Alabama Driver's License with a good driving record and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the Authority's insurance carrier.

 

Must maintain current Red Cross C.P.I., 1st Aide and C.P.R. Certificates. MAC I Certificate prior to attaining position.

 

Must hold a valid Alabama Driver's License and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the Authority's insurance carrier. Must maintain liability coverage on personal vehicles.
