                                                Residential Program - Intermediate Care Program


CLASSIFICATION:            Mental Health Support Worker III


SALARY RANGE:              $31,200.00 - $47, 474.00


SUPERVISOR:                     Clinical/Medical- Staff Physician and Staff Psychiatrist

This is responsible professional work in the field of nursing in a crisis residential setting.



Function as a support agent to all clients in the program, supervising their day to day activities in accordance with the established schedule and procedures of the program.


Assist the psychiatrist and physician in monitoring clients receiving chemotherapy, ordering supplies and medications as needed.


Assist in evaluating the clients' general medical and mental status.


Assist doctors in performing routine medication checks.


Administer intramuscular medications as ordered by the doctor.


Record documentation of medications given.


Provide emergency assessment in regard to clients' medication and mental status.


Responsible for contacting the doctor when any significant change in client medication is indicated.


Responsible for completing all forms and paperwork required by the Agency including the daily and weekly service reports.


Participate in training activities to increase skills and become more knowledgeable in methods and techniques used in the care of psychiatric clients and in the use and effects of psychotropic drugs.


Supervise the mental health aides on duty for day to day assignments and tasks.


Perform related work as requested by supervisor.




Mental Health Nurse / LPN – Residential Program / Intermediate Care Program




Knowledge of principles, techniques and standards of mental health nursing.


Knowledge of individual and group behavior with emphasis on the problems of the mentally ill.


Knowledge of psychotropic drugs.


Ability to relate warmly to clients.


Ability to recognize in clients any adverse reactions to medication.




Be a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Alabama with some experience in nursing, preferable in a psychiatric setting with decision making responsibilities. Experience working independently with little supervision is desired. Must hold a current Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificate. Must meet Medicaid approval status.



Must hold a valid Alabama Driver's License and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the Authority's insurance carrier. Must maintain liability coverage on personal vehicles.
