TITLE:                                  Mental Health Therapist II - Children (Autauga County)

                                                (School Based)


CLASSIFICATION:             Mental Health Therapist II


SALARY RANGE:              $34, 063.00 - $51,831.00


SUPERVISOR:                     Director, Children Service





This is responsible professional work in the field of mental health. Employees in this class are responsible for counseling children in the Autauga  County public school system that are mentally ill, emotionally disturbed, or presenting behavioral problems.




Perform the function of therapist to include evaluating, diagnosing and treating children and families who show evidence of suffering from a mental disorder, emotional stress, marital and family maladjustment or behavioral disorders. Must provide minimum of 60% of time in direct service.


Participate in training activities to increase therapeutic skills and to become more knowledgeable in methods and techniques used in the care of psychiatric clients.


Work evening clinic when required.


Complete reports required for client records as well as all forms or paperwork required by the Agency.





Knowledge of individual and group behavior with special emphasis on problems and feelings of children, adolescents and families.


Knowledge of the principles and methods of counseling.


Knowledge of mental illnesses and the social and individual implications.


Basic knowledge of psychotropic drugs concerning their use, misuse, desirable and undesirable effects.




Mental Health Therapist II – Children / School Based (Autauga County)


Ability to Counsel persons who are maladjusted. Ability to make clear and pertinent statements orally and in writing.  Competence in public speaking.




Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Master's Degree in Social work, Counseling, or Psychology.  Must be licensed or license eligible.  If license eligible, must have LGSW or ALC credentials within three months of hire date.  Experience with children with mental illness preferred. Must meet requirements of Medicaid for approved Medicaid provider status.


Must hold a valid Alabama Driver's License with a good driving record. Must maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the Authority's insurance carrier.  Must maintain liability coverage on personal vehicles.


Must secure and maintain Red Cross First Aid, CPR and CPI Certificates.
