                                                            JOB DESCRIPYION


TITLE:                                  RN - Nurse Coordinator (Authority Wide)


CLASSIFICATION:                        Mental Health Professional II


SALARY RANGE:              $52,000.00 - $79,124.00


SUPERVISOR:                     Clinical Director




This is responsible professional work in the field of nursing in the Community mental health center setting.



Provide general supervision of Mental Health Nurses, Mental Health Medical Assistants and LPN’s as assigned.


Responsible for overseeing the Authority’s infection control program.


Assist the psychiatrist and physician in monitoring clients receiving chemotherapy through the Mental Health Authority.


Assist in evaluating the client's general medical status.


Assist doctors in performing routine medication checks.


Administer intramuscular medications as ordered by the doctor.


Provide emergency assessment in regard to clients' medication.


Responsible for contacting the doctor when any significant change in client medication is indicated.


Responsible for completing all forms and paperwork required by the Agency including the daily and weekly service reports.


Participate in training activities to increase skills and become more knowledgeable in methods and techniques used in the care of psychiatric clients and in the use and effects of psychotropic drugs.


Assist as secondary back up to RN/Nurse Delegation as needed.


Perform related work as requested by supervisor.






Rn - Nurse Coordinator (Authority Wide)




Knowledge of principles, techniques and standards of mental health nursing.


Knowledge of individual and group behavior with emphasis on the problems of the mentally ill.


Knowledge of psychotropic drugs.


Ability to relate warmly to clients.


Ability to recognize in clients any adverse reactions to medication.




Be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama with experience in nursing, preferably in a psychiatric setting with decision-making responsibilities.  Experience working independently with little supervision is desired. Must meet requirements of Medicaid for approved Medicaid provider status


Must hold a valid Alabama Driver's License and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the Authority's insurance carrier. Must maintain liability coverage on personal vehicles. Must secure and maintain Red Cross First Aid, CPR and CPI Certificates.
